3D Animation Portfolio

"Idiot"

I wanted to further study my knowledge in creature animation that specifically lead towards CGI and VFX. I thought back to all the times I saw squirrels fly off bird feeders trying to steal food. I applied realistic dynamics of squirrels and took into account how I think squirrels would speak. I also love The Office, so I had to incorporate some dialogue from there. I chose dialogue, ideated the sequence, then applied it to the rigs. This was made within a 2.5 week period.

Animated in Maya. Rendered in Arnold.

"Predator Vs Prey"

I love animating birds and cats, so I wanted to animate a bird getting caught by a cat. I have never animated anything dead before, so it was a good and challenging experience to animate something more gruesome. I had a lot of fun animating the bird landing, the close up action shot of the cat catching the bird, and the last shot of the bird limp.

"Snack for the Road"

I looked up a lot of references from at home bird cameras to get the more domestic feel to this piece. I had a lot of fun making sure you could tell the intention behind the bird. I loved adding little details such as the head turns, flaps of the wings, and the slight pick ups of the feet after the landing. I wanted to create a realistic look from even something as simple as a blocky rig. I didn't want the rig to limit me. This was made within a 1 week period

"Bird Studies"

I wanted to really study how a smaller bird flies from all angles. My favorite parts in working on the piece was definitely studying the wing placements from the side view and the counter animation of the head movements. This showed me specifically my love for animating birds. This was made within a 1.5 week period.

"TUKUY Sacha Fall"

This is for a short film I'm an animator on, "TUKUY." This is the main character, Sacha. In this shot, she is a mother tree that has just uprooted and is walking for the first time. I studied toddlers walking, Groot from "Guardians of the Galaxy", and studying people in physical therapy learning to walk again. I worked closely with CFX to try and create a movement that allowed CFX to get done in a timely manner and not take away from the film. I worked continuously with the Director to achieve the correct, determined emotion Sacha has at this point in the film.

"TUKUY Sequence"

I animated this sequence for the short film "TUKUY." I worked closely with VFX for the flower to grow into the branch in the first shot. Additionally, I worked closely with the lighting team to correctly get the second's shot shadow to cast properly.

"Diablito Run Cycle"

I created a run cycle for other animators to use when needed for the short film, "TUKUY." I left the tail posed since we used a plugin, Astral God Physics, to speed workflow with shots.

"Ballerina Box"

I wanted to create a piece showing an inanimate object coming to life and traveling through space. I wanted to have her be younger, showing some inexperience in ballet. I couldn't find this very specific set, so I modeled the ballerina box and jewelry myself in Maya. This was worked on within a 3 week period.

"Cat Study"

I wanted to really study a cat's walk, since I've grown up always wanting a cat. I loved paying attention to paw placements, head movements, and doing subtle ear animation too. I wanted to start off with this to then animate a cat in action later down the line. This was made within a 1.5 week time period.

"Egg Fried Riot"

This is my first collaborative film. I worked with so many talented people, and I thoroughly learned the animation pipeline. In this project, I worked on storyboards, environment concepts, animation, lighting, and rendering. This film was created within a 10 week period.

Created using Maya and Arnold Renderer.

"Breaking News"

This is a 2 character sequence with dialogue. It's about a reporter trying to break into a house to get information off of someone. The second character is his camerawoman. It was fun to have two characters interacting with one another and push mouth movements with the male character. This was made within a 3 week period.

"Dialogue Exercises"

These are exercises with dialogue to get a better understanding of the eyes and the mouth controls. Experimenting with being able to see expressions with only half of the face.

Animated in Maya.

"Horse Studies"

I wanted to study the way a horse walks, trots, and gallops. I looked extensively at reference to capture the weight, correct hoof positions, and timing in each cycle. Each of these were created in about a 1.5 week period.

"The Feline Fall"

My goal was to get a complicated reference and challenge myself. I gave the camera a handheld illusion to feel more realistic. I had some struggles with the rig doing what the reference was capturing, but I learned to cheat the camera to get the shapes and arcs I wanted. I modeled the specific environment for this project that matched my reference, and I outsourced a rope rig that fit this. This was created in a 2 week time period.

"Dining with the Dead"

This is my first project using Unreal to create a film. I had a lot of creativity with this in getting rigs and animations from online catalogues and putting them together to create this. The premise is an undead cooking show. I love using premiere pro and creating fun edits, so this was a great project to exercise that more while learning a new program. This was created within a 10 week period.

Created in Unreal and edited in Premiere Pro.
