"Ballerina Box"

I wanted to create a piece showing an inanimate object coming to life and traveling through space. I wanted to have her be younger, showing some inexperience in ballet. I couldn't find this very specific set, so I modeled the ballerina box and jewelry myself in Maya. This was worked on within a 3 week period.

"The Fall"

This is a shot from the short film, "Tukuy". This character is a tree woman. Since she's a tree who's never walked before, I needed to focus on her weight being heavily in her feet. I researched a lot of babies walking for the first time and Marvel's Groot character to see how a realistic tree person would walk.

"Raised by Wolves"

This is a 2 character sequence with dialogue. It's about a reporter trying to break into a house to get information off of someone. The second character is his camerawoman. It was fun to have two characters interacting with one another and push mouth movements with the male character. This was made within a 3 week period.

"Horse Run Cycle"

DESCRIPTION

"Idiot"

I wanted to further study my knowledge in creature animation that specifically lead towards CGI and VFX. I thought back to all the times I saw squirrels fly off bird feeders trying to steal food. I applied realistic dynamics of squirrels and took into account how I think squirrels would speak. I also love The Office, so I had to incorporate some dialogue from there. I chose dialogue, ideated the sequence, then applied it to the rigs. This was made within a 2.5 week period.

"Boredom"

This was an exercise to test out body mechanics. I wanted to make something really focusing on realism. Also, I got to focus on exercising my constraint knowledge.

"Are you?"

This is a dialogue exercise I did to test out this rig. I wanted to focus more on facial controls.

"Snack for the Road"

I looked up a lot of references from at home bird cameras to get the more domestic feel to this piece. I had a lot of fun making sure you could tell the intention behind the bird. I loved adding little details such as the head turns, flaps of the wings, and the slight pick ups of the feet after the landing. I wanted to create a realistic look from even something as simple as a blocky rig. I didn't want the rig to limit me. This was made within a 1 week period.

"Bird Cycle"

I wanted to really study how a smaller bird flies from all angles. My favorite parts in working on the piece was definitely studying the wing placements from the side view and the counter animation of the head movements. This showed me specifically my love for animating birds. This was made within a 1.5 week period.

"Diablito Run Cycle"

I created a run cycle for other animators to use when needed for the short film, "Tukuy." I left the tail posed since we used a plugin, Astral God Physics, to speed workflow with shots.

"Rosebuds"

This is another dialogue exercise focusing solely on the mouth controls.

"Predator vs Prey"

I love animating birds and cats, so I wanted to animate a bird getting caught by a cat. I have never animated anything dead before, so it was a good and challenging experience to animate something more gruesome. Also, I wanted to focus on contact between two characters in a scene. I had a lot of fun animating the bird landing, the close up action shot of the cat catching the bird, and the last shot of the bird limp.

Technical 3D Portfolio

"Rustic Bedroom"

I wanted to further my knowledge in Maya's tools. I modeled based off a reference provided to me. I textured to resemble a painterly style that I felt fit the lived in bedroom. This whole process was incredibly fun and rewarding. It made me find a love and appreciation for the tech side of animation. I aspire to further my knowledge of it in the future! Created within a 10 week period.

Modeled in Maya. Textured in Substance Painter. Lit in Maya. Rendered in Arnold.

"Tukuy Closeup CFX"

This was my second attempt at CFX for our main character, Sacha, in "Tukuy". I loved that I got to have a balance of close up and far away shots to see how the CFX process can differ depending on the shot. I had a lot of fun increasing the density of the dreads, changing textures of the hair, and overall learning something new in the 3D pipeline. This was a very rewarding experience.

"Tukuy Compositing"

I was very eager to get my hands on Nuke and composite this shot for "Tukuy". I learned a lot through this process, and I'm very proud with what I accomplished. My favorite touch is the fog that blurs the background and the God rays.

Animated in Maya. Composited in Nuke.

"Egg Fried Riot Lighting"

This was my first execution at lighting ever. I got to learn lighting a bit on this short film with Arnold in Maya. I loved learning the aspects of what goes into lighting, and I had fun especially adding animation within the lighting scene. I worked closely with the lighting lead and my photography friends to learn more on lighting.

"Tukuy Far Away CFX"

This was my first shot at CFX for the short film I worked on. I worked closely with the CFX lead to see how to get the simulations to create the effect I wanted. I was very excited to learn Houdini since I know several 3D companies use it. I strive to further gain knowledge on Houdini in the future, but I'm happy I've scratched the surface in caching and Houdini's applications.
